i agree with u BUT look at it from their point, asia is a huge market for american films, pearl harbor had a BIG budget, would they have made the money back in Asia, had they deared to tell the Truth.

I actually enjoyed Pearl Harbor! I saw it twice! I find it visually stunning - the special fx awesome and the soundtrack nice too. Sure, it has its flaws, and is cheesy in places, but I found it a great entertainment.
The audience today is more demanding than ever.
Pearl Harbor was exactly like Titanic...a 3-hour love triangle that climaxes with a historical disaster. A.I. wasn't the worst movie I've seen this year but I certianly disliked it (personally).
However, there have been plenty of good movies coming out lately:
Traffic was good, Requiem for a Dream was much better though, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, and Memento.
Plus, this looks interesting (to say the least):

"Pearl Harbor" (I was one of the untold millions of holy smuchks that flocked to the theatre to see this god-awful masterpiece) was made to showcase ILM's special effects capabilities, and to (duh) make money.
I've never gotten into love triangles but what I think woulda been cool is a love quartet, maybe Kate Beckinsale should had an affair with Alec Baldwin...heh.
In my oppinion A.I. had the most substence as yet but with a year showcasing "Lara Croft: Tomb Raider", "Evoloution", and "America's Sweethearts" that isn't saying much.
Kubrick and Spielberg, ah the sweet bliss of this horror.

"A good director elevates his film above all limitations placed on it...above its genre, script, acting and production. A good director IS the film."
Pearl Harbour wasn't racist enough.
When I say racist I mean they shouldn't have hidden what awful people the Japanese were at that time. They have a Japanese pilot warning some kids (I hear, I haven't actually bothered with the movie) when in reality he would have had a shot at them.
Bay was indeed the wrong director.
You lot are something else. Truly. Why is it easier to hate nowadays then to give props. The way you lot blast someone for a piece of work is amazin considering most of you cant actually create a flawless piece yourselves.
Im sorry but i have to say it. Maybe when each of you post a link for the rest of us to view your masterpieces then can you roast another guy for his efforts.
It just seems i registered into a discussion forum thats caters for whinging people, who cant produce something themselves.
MeeeeeeeooooooooooWWWW!

I told him not to jump...so he didn't. Damn! Don't you hate anti-climaxes.
I did'nt see said film because I knew it would'nt be my thing.
People in this forum put forward their opinions. Then other people like Black Arts complain because some of us don't LOVE everything that is produced in Hollywood. The chances are I will never have the budget of Pearl Harbour to play with. But if I did I would make a film that critics would like.
Maybe I can't prove it, but thats what I beleive.
I think our problem is not that we complain to much. You have a right to expect big things from a mega bucks picture.
Someone said "the audience is more demanding than ever." I disagree, I think we accept far too much crap. If we can see the flaws in other movies perhaps we can avoid them in our own.
I for one refuse to celebrate any piece of under-written over noisy techno garbage that Hollywood churns out. I will never be into films like pearl harbour either.
If someone posts a topic i.e Citizen Kane is crap, I will say No its not. If someone posts and says Judge Dread is great I will say no its not. If this gets people annoyed than THEY SHOULD'NT BE HERE.
Opinions can be interesting you know, even ones that differ from your own...aw man are you still reading this?

Give him a break. If you were given a 100 million to make a movie you would take it. I know I would. Because you would think you would be able to turn in around. Despite a week script. You would want to give it a go.
Noone sets out to make a bad movie.
I think its just armchair Director Envy.
"Look he's made it, We havent lets bash him."
The general public like these movies. Its just mindless entertainment. Not everyone wants to go and see a movie like Momento because you have to think to much. But we all have a choice. What we go and see. If it wernt for movies like armageddon making so much money the studios would never risk making movies like Momento or Bound or whatever.
P.S
I have not even seen pearl harbour so I cant say anything about it.
Despin Out.
There's nothing wrong with making an action film but leave it to the pros like James Cameron, John McTiernan (on a good day), etc. No talent hacks like Bay should be kept as far away from any camera equipment as possible, by court order if necessary. I mean, for god's sake, he makes Tony Scott look like John f*cking Sayles.
The moron Bay makes feature length pop-promos, superficial eye-candy for the lobotomised generation. These people go to the cinema for something to do; they wouldn't know a good film if it ripped their head off and shat down the fecking neck hole. Jesus...
as much as Id like to agree with you, I dont.
Perl Harbour was a deliberate attempt at making as much money as possible, by cashing in on an historic event. Thats all.
And it was a flop (in terms of what was expected.)
Its money that motivates these sorts of films. And the more crap that gets accepted by people (ie they pay for) the more will get made.
You have a massive right to condemn anything you dont like. Sympathy on this board for James Cameron makes me feel uneasy, he is a hugely rich man, who works for a studio making films. He can pick and choose what he does. If he picks a turkey and makes a load of crap....its his call....
Everyone here is a film critic with no qualifications - but it doesnt mean you dont have an opinion.
Big budget movies are a million leagues away from here - who gives a shit what they are do?
And they do damage 'decent' films, by stealing time at cinemas. (if nothing else.)
Anyway I think the 'mob' is underrated, most people know shit whan they see it - but by then its too late, because someone with tons of money have already pushed your nose in it and wiped it all over your face.
who cares? Pearl Harbour? what?
